If you’re coming in for acupuncture to support pelvic pain, a little preparation can help you get the most out of your session.

Pelvic pain is rarely one-dimensional. It often involves hormones, digestion, inflammation, stress and nervous system regulation. The more context we have, and the more supported your body feels on the day, the more effective your treatment can be.

Here are a few simple ways to prepare:

  • Bring Recent Medical Records

If you have recent blood tests, ultrasound reports, laparoscopy findings or specialist letters, bring them along (or email them through beforehand).

Why?

Acupuncture and naturopathy work alongside conventional care. Understanding your diagnosis, hormone patterns, inflammatory markers or surgical history allows us to tailor treatment more precisely. It also ensures we are aligned with your broader medical team and aware of any contraindications. Pelvic pain often has layers — having the full picture helps us treat the right ones.

  • Eat Before Your Appointment

Please don’t arrive on an empty stomach....I know this can be tricky if you have an early appointment, but even a few crackers or piece of fruit will help!

Acupuncture works through the nervous system and circulation. If your blood sugar is low, you may feel lightheaded, shaky or fatigued during or after treatment. Having a balanced meal or snack beforehand stabilises blood glucose and helps your body shift into a relaxed, parasympathetic state more easily.

  • Stay Hydrated

Hydration supports circulation and helps your body respond to treatment. When we place needles — even gently — we’re influencing blood flow, lymphatic movement and nervous system signalling. Dehydration can make you feel sluggish or headachy afterwards.

  • Aim to drink water consistently throughout the day before your appointment.

  • Wear Comfortable Clothing

We often use distal needling (points on the arms and legs) to influence pelvic circulation and nervous system pathways. Loose, comfortable clothing makes this easier and helps you feel more at ease during treatment.

  • Avoid alcohol, excess caffeine or tongue brushing

Avoid alcohol and caffeine for a few hours before and after. Refrain from strenuous exercise or high-stress activities before the session too and if you're a tongue brusher avoid that too...this is one of our diagnostic tools.

  • Come As You Are

You don’t need to be “ready” or have it all figured out. Pelvic pain can be exhausting and unpredictable. Some days you’ll feel strong; other days you may feel tender or overwhelmed. All of that is welcome here.

Acupuncture for pelvic pain isn’t just about symptom suppression — it’s about regulation, circulation and restoring a sense of safety in the body.

If you have any questions before your session, feel free to reach out. We’re here to support you, every step of the way.
